Organic Vanilla Essential Oil, CO2
Common Vanilla, Mexican Vanilla
- Organic Vanilla is probably the most easily recognized and beloved of all scents. Sweet and sensuous, it is a gorgeously rich addition to any perfume blend or aromatherapy treatment. This special organic vanilla essential oil has a much higher vanillin content (26%) than usual, resulting in a much fuller, more pleasant aroma.

Vanilla is believed to be an aphrodisiac and helpful for alleviating anxiety and stress. Due to its invigorating effect, it might be best to avoid Vanilla aromatherapy before bedtime.
Vanilla’s popularity extends beyond aromatherapy; you will find it often used as a flavoring for foods, beverages, medications and tobacco products. Vanilla is also an ingredient in many perfumes and skin care products.
Dilute in a carrier oil and apply to the skin, or blend with unscented skin creams, etc. Not appropriate for use in nebulizing diffusers, due to its thick, sticky texture.
Depending on the climate, CO2 essential oils can sometimes not be liquid at room temperature. If this is the case, simply run the closed bottle underneath water from the hot water tap for a couple of minutes in order to liquefy it. Please be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water. Alternatively you can slowly lower the bottle into a saucepan of boiling water for a couple of minutes, but be careful not to burn yourself or to let the bottle touch the bottom of the saucepan.
Nontoxic. Skin sensitization to some products containing Vanilla is possible, due to traces of solvents and frequent adulteration.
Vanilla has been traditionally used in folk medicine as an aphrodisiac and remedy for indigestion, morning sickness and joint pain.
Spanish explorers discovered the vanilla orchid in Mexico, where local hummingbirds pollinate the fragrant flowers to this day. Outside of the ecosystem of its native land, however, vanilla flowers must be meticulously pollinated by hand—a true labor of love.
About the Plant
A perennial herb or vine, vanilla grows up to 100 feet high, with green stems and large, white, trumpet-shaped flowers.
Vanilla Essential Oil cannot be steam distilled. Only solvent extraction and CO2 extraction are possible. Solvent extraction has the disadvantage that minute residues of the solvent remain. Because of the nature of the procedure, solvent-extracted Vanilla cannot be certified organic.
For these reasons, Amrita offers a certified organic CO2-extracted Vanilla. The certification also guarantees that it is 100% natural and unadulterated.
