  • The fresh, slightly spicy, mint aroma of Peppermint saturates a room with freshness, clarity and vitality. Refreshing and stimulating, Peppermint Essential Oil has remarkably immediate effects on mental functioning. It seems to produce clear thinking and the ability to focus. It also is an excellent pain reliever and is always useful to have around.

“Mint is one of the best known essential oils in aromatherapy. The oil belongs in every first-aid kit since it helps remedy acute dizzy spells, rapid heartbeat, tremors, shock and general weakness. A few drops inhaled from a tissue can bring quick relief. Mint oil is ideal for treating headaches, reactions to severe weather conditions, and tightness in the neck area….

“The oil helps people become clear-headed and refreshes spirits. Like Lemon, Lemongrass, Basil and Rosemary, Mint specifically stimulates the central hippocampus of the brain. It may be beneficial for people who are unable to concentrate or who have mental fatigue and memory lapses. This is an ideal oil to use in an aroma lamp in the office, in conference rooms, or in any situations in which a clean, uncluttered atmosphere is desired.” Complete Aromatherapy Handbook, Susanne Fischer-Rizzi.

Peppermint is non-toxic and non-irritant, except in concentration. The menthol contained in Peppermint is a dermal irritant, so avoid contact with eyes, skin and mucous membranes. May cause sensitization in some individuals. It is a stimulating oil; therefore, it is not advised for use in the evening or at bedtime, as it may cause insomnia. Peppermint oil should not be used on children who are 3 years of age or younger.

  • Traditional Uses

Peppermint is the subject of ancient Greek stories and also can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where it was found inside burial chambers dating back to 1000 BC. Peppermint is a hallmark of traditional medicine, historically used for pain relief, indigestion, sore throat and other common complaints. Many of the same complaints for which Peppermint was traditionally used are still treated with Peppermint to this day.

    About the Plant

Peppermint is a hybrid perennial herb that grows up to 3 feet high, with tasty, pointy and furry leaves that are often snipped to steep in teapots and to adorn summer fruit salads, which burst with flavor as a result.

  • This organic Peppermint from India was a great find for us. It is as fine as the finest French Peppermint, yet it comes at an affordable price. It is a 100% pure and natural Peppermint, with no menthol from Cornmint added—a common practice in India.

As you may know, poor-quality Peppermint can have a harsh tone. Amrita’s organic Peppermint is so fine, it almost has a floral note to it. We believe the more pleasing an essential oil is, the more the mind-body can open up to it, and then healing takes place.
