  • The freeing scent of Black Spruce Essential Oil elevates and refreshes. It has many therapeutic uses; it is known to uplift the emotions and relieve muscle aches and joint pain. Its biggest benefit may be its help in dissolving blocked energy in the chest area, which is associated with depression and chronic fatigue. It also helps with poor circulation and respiratory weakness. When it is used with Sweet Eucalyptus oil, it can assist in warding off colds and flu. Spruce’s woodsy, fragrant aroma can help open and release emotional blocks, bringing about an experience of balance, strength and peaceful security.

    Since the effects of using Black Spruce Oil are both calming and elevating, it is an excellent choice for yoga and meditative use. Spruce also has long been enjoyed in the sauna and steam bath.

  • Traditional Uses

    American Indians applied Black Spruce bark and twigs externally to stop bleeding wounds and sore muscles. They also heated the twigs in steam baths to induce sweating for relief of rheumatism, colds and coughs They were known to make beer by boiling the twigs and cones in maple syrup. 

     About the Plant

    Black spruce is a tall conifer tree, growing up to 150 feet high. It has slender horizontal branches, finely toothed leaves, smallish brown cones and an estimated life span of 1,200 years. Spruce Oil is used in household cleaning products, and the needles and/or essential oil have been used the process of brewing beer.



  • Conifers culture the subtle aspects of breathing, also called Prana. The Ayurvedic subdoshas Prana Vata and Udana Vata are seated in the chest and have ascending energy.  If they are blocked, chronic fatigue may be experienced.  If they function properly, mental functions are at their best. 

    This quality of the conifers makes them very useful for meditation.  Their essential oils are recommended in this order: Balsam Fir, Hemlock Spruce, Spruce, pines.
