Castor Organic Carrier Oil, a time-honored, natural remedy with roots in ancient tradition. Derived from the castor plant, a resilient flowering species in the Euphorbiaceae family, this remarkable Carrier Oil has been valued for centuries across regions like the Mediterranean, East Africa, and India, where it thrives in warm, tropical climates.

Despite the plant itself being known as one of the most toxic common plants, the oil extracted through cold-pressing is completely safe for everyday use when properly prepared. Rich in history, Castor Oil earned its name as a natural alternative to castoreum, once used in perfumes, and is also known as “Palma Christi” or “Palm of Christ” a nod to its long-standing reputation for revitalizing, nourishing, and supporting overall wellness.* Today, Castor Oil continues to be a go-to ingredient for natural beauty, self-care, and holistic health, trusted for its versatility and gentle effectiveness.*

    • About the Plant:
      • The Castor Oil plant, Castor Bean, is a species of perennial flowering plant in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. The plant is fast-growing and can get as big as 39 feet. It has large, shiny leaves shaped like a hand with several pointed sections that can be green, reddish, or even purple. It grows small flowers without petals and spiky, round seed pods. Inside those pods are large, shiny, bean-like seeds that are usually brown with a light, spotted pattern. The seeds are very poisonous.
      • The castor bean plant naturally contains ricin in the raw seeds, an extremely toxic compound. However, properly cold-pressed Castor Oil does not contain ricin and is safe for topical use.*
    • Where It Grows:
      • Castor is indigenous to the southeastern Mediterranean area, East Africa, as well as India, but is widespread throughout tropical regions. This plant is mostly grown in India.
    • Traditional Uses and Lore:
      • Castor Oil gets its name from its early use as a natural substitute for castoreum, a fragrance ingredient made from beaver glands. It’s also known as “Palma Christi,” or “Palm of Christ,” a name inspired by its long-standing reputation for helping heal and soothe a variety of ailments.
      • The FDA considers Castor Oil to be a natural laxative, and it has historically been used as such within traditional and holistic communities.
