  • Sage Oil has a fresh, herbal scent with many therapeutic properties, although it is best used in moderation. It is known to reduce swelling, redness and inflammation. It can help promote blood flow to the uterus, reduce excess water retention and bring down fever. It can be used as a general-purpose tonic. There are claims that Sage Oil can also stimulate hair growth, ease muscle and joint pain and raise blood pressure. It is a wonderful antiseptic and disinfectant.

    Joint pain: Topical Application, maximum 5 drops, diluted to 3-5% in any carrier oil.

    Oral toxic. Abortifacient. Avoid use if you have epilepsy or are pregnant. Use with care. Sage oil should not be used for children 3 years of age and younger.


  • Traditional Uses

    Throughout history, sage has been used in many ways. The Romans believed it cured just about everything. The Chinese believed sage cured sterility. During the Middle Ages, sage was a well-regarded tonic and was also used in dental hygiene.  In Native American ceremonies, sage was and still is used to cleanse and purify the surroundings. Sage has been used to induce urination and menstruation, stop the bleeding of wounds and cleanse ulcers and sores. 

    About the Plant

    Sage is a perennial evergreen herb growing up to 2 feet high, with woody stems and soft, silver, oval leaves. Its flowers are deep blue or violet. It is native to the Mediterranean region, although it has naturalized in many places throughout the world. Sage has a long history of medicinal and culinary uses, and in modern times it is often used as an ornamental garden plant.

  • French Sage has a much lower thujone content than the Sage Oil grown in southeastern Europe; therefore, the level of toxicity is lower. It is also a much milder, more pleasant-smelling Sage.


  • Scent:  Fresh, warm, spicy, herbaceous. The aroma is much more pleasant than the Sage Essential Oil from southeastern Europe.

    Blends With:  Hyssop, Lavandin, Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, Rose.

    Fragrance Note:  Middle.

    Composition:  Thujone, cineol, borneol, caryophyllene.
